October Round-Up

October!

It got to be October already. And so much is going on.

Today is National Poetry Day! A good day to read new poetry and even write some. This year’s theme is stars. There are some lovely poems on the site, and I’ll include here my favourite Shakespeare…

Sonnet 14 – Not from the stars do I my judgement pluck

Not from the stars do I my judgment pluck;
And yet methinks I have astronomy,
But not to tell of good or evil luck,
Of plagues, of dearths, or seasons’ quality;
Nor can I fortune to brief minutes tell,
Pointing to each his thunder, rain and wind,
Or say with princes if it shall go well,
By oft predict that I in heaven find:
But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive,
And, constant stars, in them I read such art
As truth and beauty shall together thrive,
If from thyself to store thou wouldst convert;
Or else of thee this I prognosticate:
Thy end is truth’s and beauty’s doom and date.

October is also Stoptober. – If you ever needed a reason to stop smoking, maybe this month is the one to do it.

And last, and not at all least, the Bold Moves October movement. Started as way of making connections and finding romance, has sprawled into a lovely initiative. As they say on their site:

BMO is an initiative intended to give people the confidence to take charge of their own lives and direct their destinies. It’s not about getting the date or the job, it’s about acknowledging that you are worthy of what you desire.

It’s also about letting loose. We follow so many rules when it comes to social etiquette and dating, but sometimes you just need a solid dose of “fuck it” to see what mysteries the world may reveal.

Make a bold move. Do the thing that scares you, talk to that new person, wear that new hat, submit that manuscript (see what I did there). Be bold, be brave.

Peace, love and poetry.
